The Current Troop

For the current year (09-10) the troop has 56 registered members including 9 leaders. It is broken up into 7 patrols of about 6/7 in each.

12 new Scouts joined in September with 9 of those moving up from Cubs. Many of these Cubs have progressed through since Beavers.

The leader team remains much the same as 2009. We have 9 leaders who are all extremely dedicated, meeting up at least once during the week to discuss programme and other matters as well as our Friday nights. Much of the work undertaken by the leaders involves organising Summer camp which is a massive logistical operation!

Our main source of fundraising is, and has been for twenty three years, the selling of Christmas trees at the Memorial Hall. All Scouts take turns to work at the hall and a huge effort is put in by all.

During the year the Troop partake in 2 weekend camps in Ireland and a two week long Summer Camp abroad. The weekend camps, in October and May, are usually to Powerscourt but during recent years we have camped in Louth, Beckettsfield and Kilkenny.

Programme for Friday night activities is decided and organised by the PL team who meet weekly. There is also a PLC (Patrol Leader Council) at 5-6 week intervals where programme is presented and troop issues are discussed. The PL's are mostly in 4th year in secondary school and around 15 years old but they show huge dedication and give a lot of time to ensuring the troop works well.
